J&M manufactures this bump steer kit for the S197-chassis Mustang from Aerospace T6511-6011 aluminum. The spherical rod end bodies are heat-treated chrome-moly alloy steel, clear zinc plated, with a PTFE-lined 52100 steel ball (Rc 56 min), hard chrome plated, rated at a static radial load of 18,000 lbs. The tapered stud is machined from forged 4340 chrome-moly, heat-treated to grade-8 bolt tensile strength (150,000 psi, minimum Rockwell C-33), with threads rolled rather than cut after heat treating for maximum strength.

What is Bump Steer?

When a car is lowered or lifted, it needs to be realigned to avoid excessive tire wear, which changes tie rod length -- and that changes bump steer. Less toe change can make the car feel more "twitchy" in a turn; more toe change than stock makes the car feel twitchy on straight, bumpy roads while resisting turn-in. This kit corrects that geometry so your alignment stays predictable after lowering.
